We are looking for a board-certified Editor, MD (Physician Editor) who will work remotely to update and write MCG guidelines. This editor will contribute to annual updates of MCG’s Inpatient and Surgical Care guidelines (and other products as assigned). This includes meeting established deadlines and quality goals and writing new guidelines as needed. Specific tasks include medical literature queries, writing MCG guidelines, editing MCG guidelines, and quality control of content. Clinical experience and knowledge base should include a deep understanding of the medical care of inpatients, and emergency department decision-making (i.e., inpatient admission vs. observation care vs. discharge). Collaborate with other CARE Team members as needed. Example special project would be annotating and labeling electronic medical records (as a clinician) to help train large language models to interpret MCG content

What does a typical day look like for a Physician Editor? They conduct literature searches to identify new published medical literature for the topics in a specific guideline, review and evaluate published medical literature, and summarize new literature. Using principles of evidence-based medicine, they assess the quality and trustworthiness of the evidence and use their critical thinking to update the guideline criteria. Their goal is to enhance the delivery of optimal healthcare. 

Successful accomplishments and primary accountabilities of this position will depend upon establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of internal teams and external clients.  Interactions will primarily be with others within the CARE team, but may include other MCG staff, clients, and visitors.

You Will:

GUIDELINE DEVELOPMENT

  • Planning – participate in content planning.
  • Evidence search – expert at focused queries of clinical literature and other evidence.
  • Writing – expert at use of MCG tools and systems for guideline writing, ensuring guidelines are complete and consistent with current evidence. 
  • Editing – editing responsibilities for specific assignments.
  • Quality control – responsibility for content of specific assignments. 

BUSINESS AND MARKETING

  • Advisory role providing input to other Editors, Managing Editors, and Editor-in-Chief on all external issues.
  • Participates at annual Client Forum as assigned.
  • Participates in sales meetings as appropriate.
  • Participates in market research as appropriate.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

  • Participate and facilitate team approach to future product planning.
  • Clinical resource for information regarding new content, for non-clinical MCG employees as appropriate.
  • Presents at MCG seminars, Client Forum, and other meetings as assigned.

STAFF AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports to assigned Managing Editor.
  • Participates in decisions regarding new content and product development.

STRATEGIC RELATIONSHPS

  • Participates in building strategic relationship with identified external entities as appropriate.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum of 5 years of inpatient clinical experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of level of care decision-making experience (i.e., admission vs. observation care vs. discharge)  
  • Familiarity with evidence-based medicine and critical appraisal techniques. 
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to work with (after training) a variety of software tools/applications
  • You are a physician who loves to learn, particularly about medicine

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Active, current, unrestricted MD or DO license in a state or territory of the United States required. Other research, academic/administrative, business/consulting, or payer experience, or an advanced degree (MPH, MBA, or similar) is a plus.
  • ABMS Board Certification required in one or more of the following: Internal Medicine (with or without subspecialty certification), Pediatrics (with or without subspecialty certification), Emergency Medicine, or Family Practice. 

Travel to our Seattle office or other location is required 3-4 times per year.

Pay Range: $188,400 – $263,800

Other compensation: Bonus Eligible
