We are adding two career development/performance management professionals to our team!
Our Talent Development Coaches will be at the forefront of supporting our people in learning how to overcome career challenges, defining what success means to them, and finding ways to align their passions with the firm’s business needs. If you are adept at having real (sometimes difficult) performance discussions with entry level to mid-career employees, participating in strategic discussions with senior leadership, and passionate about helping others achieve their potential, this may be the role for you!
Who’s a Good Fit?
To be successful in this role, you’ll need a background in HR that includes employee relations and delivering 1:1 performance coaching. While this is not a compliance or training focused role, you’ll need some understanding of these areas along with DEIB principles and best practices. The necessary skills are typically acquired through a bachelor’s degree in a related field and about five years of experience in directly related roles, although there are a variety of career paths that could facilitate success. You’ll need to be very good at building relationships; establishing and maintaining trust; communicating and collaborating effectively across various levels and departments, and documentation. You’ll also need to have excellent critical thinking skills, innate curiosity, and comfort with providing upward and downward feedback. If you have an ICF certification, that would be icing on the cake.
It’s possible for someone to adapt to public accounting from other industries, and we’re ready to support that, but it is a very difficult transition unless you have at least a year of experience in a professional services field (legal, engineering, architecture, etc.—anywhere that involves hourly billing for consulting services).
We’ll be looking for someone who will embrace the challenge of helping to build a new program while operating in it, which means they’re comfortable with some ambiguity and continual improvement/changes in methodology or practices and the multiple technology platforms used (MS Office environment).
What Would You be Doing?
As our Talent Development Coach, you will provide performance coaching and professional development guidance for entry level through mid-career employees (mostly Staff Accountants, Senior Accountants, and Managers in Tax, Audit, and Advisory departments). You will collaborate with leaders to facilitate talent development and succession planning conversations, and they will leverage your expertise to maintain a sustainable, thriving workforce that achieves strategic goals.
You can expect to:
- Hold monthly coaching sessions (1-hour) with each of your internal clients (50 – 65 individuals) regarding their professional and personal development.
- Collaborate with Technical Advisors on a quarterly basis to identify and support the talent development goals of the employees you jointly support.
- Partner with Resource Management and department leaders to gather feedback on performance trends and use feedback to help guide the creation of development goals.
- Support the successful transition for new hires into the culture of Perkins & Co.
- Provide upward coaching to leaders to enhance their management skills.
- Collaborate with staff and leaders at all levels to assist with evaluation comments, coach them on delivering performance feedback, and assist in facilitating the discussion with the employee.
- Ensure employees complete all technical and success skills training as assigned by their learning plan.
- Develop and facilitate training classes as needed.
