Bttr is a dynamic digital design studio with a remote team of talented professionals passionate about creating innovative and impactful digital experiences for our clients. We specialize in designing brands, digital products and websites. We are dedicated to delivering high-quality, creative solutions to our clients and are now seeking a visionary Head of Design to lead our design team.

Position Overview: 

As the Head of Design, you will be a key member of the Bttr leadership team, responsible for overseeing the design department, fostering a creative and collaborative environment and team culture that ensures the delivery of exceptional award-winning design work. You will work closely with our CEO, CCO, Head of Projects and other department teams to align design strategies with business goals. You will not only be able to manage a team, you will also be able to lead by doing, demonstrating exceptional talent and what good looks like to the team.

You will play an essential role in the growth of the agency, both strategically and operationally. This role requires a strategic thinker, a skilled communicator, and a hands-on leader who can inspire and elevate our design team and their work. You will be exceptionally organized, often participating in numerous meetings to ensure seamless communication and alignment across teams.  In collaboration with Ops and the PM teams, you’ll establish robust systems and processes to enhance efficiency and continuously improve high standards. As a supportive leader, you will provide a compassionate ear and guidance to your team members, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

    • Lead and mentor a team of designers, including UI/UX designers, graphic designers, copywriters, motion designers and other creative professionals.
    • Cultivate a collaborative and innovative team environment to encourage professional growth, setting clear goals, providing regular feedback, and conducting performance reviews.
    • Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews.

Design Strategy & Vision:

    • Create and execute a unified design vision that aligns with company objectives and client requirements.
    • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to ensure the studio remains at the forefront of design innovation.
    • Advocate for designing a better future and ensure all projects meet the highest standards of feasibility, usability and visual excellence.

Project Oversight & Quality Assurance:

    • Oversee the design process for all projects, from concept to final delivery, ensuring high-quality outputs.
    • Collaborate with leadership and project managers to define project scopes, timelines, budgets and team resourcing.
    • Review and approve design deliverables, providing constructive feedback and ensuring they meet client expectations and brand guidelines.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Serve as the primary creative liaison for design discussions, building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.
    • Present design concepts, strategies, and solutions to clients, clearly articulating the rationale behind design decisions.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and translating them into effective design solutions.

Process Improvement & Innovation:

    • Continuously refine and improve design processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and quality.
    • Encourage experimentation and innovation within the team, exploring new design techniques and technologies.
    • Lead initiatives to promote a culture of creativity and continuous learning within the studio.

Growth:

    • Work closely with the leadership team to scale the agency and win new clients.
    • Be a thought leader and actively develop a voice for the agency within the industry, sharing perspectives that support the Bttr brand and business objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in a design role, including at least 3 years in a leadership position.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading design teams and delivering high-quality design projects.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in UI/UX design, branding, and digital design.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in design software and tools, such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
